Green Chile Cheeseburger Smackdown 2017 heading to Santa Fe

Prepare your tastebuds, because Santa Fe is bringing back the Green Chile Cheeseburger Smackdown featuring a new round of chefs and unique burger creations.

Edible, a network of local food publications, is hosting the smackdown, which pits various chefs across the state to come up with the ultimate green chile cheeseburger. An event is held and attendees and judges sample each burger and name one ultimate winner, and one fan favorite.

Chefs try to top one another by making their burger stand out. Unique ingredients range from beef patties with chorizo and brisket, to burgers topped with fried eggs, smoked ham and red chile kimchi. Peek through the slideshow for a look at each handcrafted burger.

Of course, the star of each burger is green chile, a staple in New Mexico and big business too. The value of New Mexico red and green chiles was estimated at $38.7 million in 2014.

The Green Chile Cheeseburger Smackdown will spotlight some of New Mexico’s most notorious burgers and world-class chefs. Restaurants will compete for the chance to reign as the Green Chile Cheeseburger Champ.
